SPS isn't a hotline — here's what we actually are
SPS (Suicide Prevention Squad) is a Christian youth community in South Africa — not a hotline or a counselling service. We run events, school outreach, articles, and a Bible tool, and we point people to professional crisis resources like SADAG when they need them.
Who we are
If you've landed here from a search about faith and mental health, you might be wondering who we are. Short answer: we're not a hotline. We don't replace SADAG or professional counselling. But we are something else that matters deeply.
SPS (Suicide Prevention Squad) is a Christian youth initiative. We're a community of young people in South Africa who believe that the Gospel of Jesus Christ is the most hopeful news in the world — and that it speaks directly to the pain young people are carrying. Not as a cliché. Not as a shallow slogan. As a real, lived, broken-yet-hopeful reality.
What we actually do
We do a few things: we run events where young people can connect, we go into schools for outreach, we create content (like these articles) for those searching online at 2am, and we maintain a Bible tool to help people find Scripture that speaks to where they are. We point people to professional crisis resources when they need them — and we stay as a consistent community for the long haul.
We're peers, not professionals
We're not professionals. We're not counsellors. We're peers — young believers walking the same road, who have tasted enough of God's grace to know it's real. We don't pretend to have all the answers. But we know a Guy who does.
Get involved
Want to get involved? Message us on WhatsApp, Instagram, or drop us a message through the contact form. Want to bring us to your school or church? We'd love to talk. And if you're in crisis right now, please — use the resources on our /help page before you do anything else. We'll be here when you're ready.
"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!"
